So.. What's The Next Stage in Evolution Of The Mind?

All developed mental beings who get beyond the average have, in one way or another or at least at certain times and for certain purposes, separated the two parts of their mind. The yogi goes still further, not only mastering but even while in mind getting out of it and standing above or quite back from it, completely free.

Yogis and advanced practitioners realize through direct observation that thoughts arrive from outside rather than originating internally. This represents a radical shift from conventional understanding of thought production as purely individual.

The normal human has no contact with ranges of consciousness above and below the human range, which seem invisible just as certain light wavelengths or sound frequencies remain imperceptible to human senses.

For anyone who has advanced even a little way in self-knowing, the proposition that unconsciousness is simply other consciousness becomes most elementary. We are no more unconscious when asleep, stunned, drugged, or dead than when plunged in inner thought oblivious of physical self and surroundings.

The task of the beginning self-reflection student is to become conscious in every way, at all levels of being and all degrees of universal existence—not just mentally. This includes becoming conscious in oneself, in others, in all things while awake, in sleep, and finally in what people call death.

One yogi confided to disciples that the capital period of his intellectual development was when he could see clearly that what the intellect said might be correct and not correct, that what the intellect justified was true and its opposite also was true. He never admitted a truth in the mind without simultaneously keeping it open to the contrary of it.

People unable to realize the inevitability of supermental descent fail to understand what the supermind is or recognize the significance of consciousness emerging in a world of inconscient matter. A matter-of-fact observer at earth’s beginning would have criticized any promise of life emerging in dead rock as absurdity and chimera.

The supermental evolution does not mean humanity as a whole will become supermental. What is more likely is that the supermental principle will be established in evolution by descent just as the mental principle was established by the appearance of thinking mind and man in earthly life.

It is not intended to supermentalize humanity at large, but to establish the principle of supermental consciousness in the earth evolution. If that is done, all that is needed will be evolved by the supermental power itself.

Questions about supermind cannot be answered profitably because supermind cannot be described in terms that the mind will understand. The terms will be mental and mind will understand them in a mental way and mental sense, missing their true import.
